Best Grand Final Party on the Planet!

During Grand Final week in 2011, the AFL ran a competition for fans overseas to submit details of their Grand Final party, including photos to help supporters connect for the big game.

Nearly 200 entries were received and the winner was from the tropical setting of Moorings Hotel in Vanuatu where more than 100 expats and locals turned up to watch the big game.

They win a 2011 AFL Premiers Lithograph signed by Cameron Ling and Chris Scott..

Around 100 people turned up to Moorings Hotel in Port Vila on Saturday 1st October to witness a cracker of a grand final between Geelong & Collingwood.

The event was also a fundraising event for the Vanuatu national U/16 squad who are preparing for the Oceania AFL carnival in December this year.

Faces were painted and traditional Island kai kai (food) was sold before the football action stole the focus.

Everyone reported that the day was a huge success and all are looking forward to turning their focus to the local Vanuatu Grand Final in November and the U/16 carnival in December.

Whirlwind Wedding for Professional Golfer at Vanuatu Golf Open

Professional Golfer Daniel Tyzzer & his fiancé Whitney Garcia checked into Moorings Hotel ahead of the first round of the Vanuatu Golf Open in august 2011. While enjoying a refreshing tropical punch at Moos Bar & Grill, the couple were inspired by the staff who were preparing for a wedding that evening at the hotel.

In an instant the pair decided that this week too would be their wedding week! They set the staff at Moorings into a frenzy in order to prepare their spontaneous whirlwind Wedding to be held in no more than two days time (after the completion of round three – for those who still thought this story is about the golf)

On the day, both the Bride and Groom informed the Wedding Coordinator that they have been planning this wedding for 6 years but still could not decided the best time and place to tie the knot.

Frantically some of their friends scrambled for plane tickets and tropical clothes and with the addition of Hotel receptionist Saki as the best man and reservations agent Betty as the brides maid, the wedding was a stunning success!

Moorings Hotel wishes the happy couple all the best for a long and loving life together…..and we hope to see Daniel back for the VGA next year too (anniversary anyone?)
